Electric Weed Trimmers - How Good Are They?

!±8± Electric Weed Trimmers - How Good Are They?

Those looking to keep their lawns trimmed and keep their weeds in check may be thinking of getting a electric weed trimmer. These trimmers seem like a good choice for those that don't want to deal with gasoline or dirty oil or the troubles of yanking a cord numerous times to try and get the things to start. But are these electric weed trimmers any good at doing their job - trimming weeds and grass?

The answer depends on who you ask. The answer you get from a person with a small lawn which requires little trimming will almost certainly have a different answer than someone that has a large yard which needs heavy trimming. So why exactly is there a difference? And what does it have to do with yard size and workload?

The answer is simple...

First, electric weed trimmers run from the power supplied by an extension cord. If the area that you need to work is large, you need a sufficiently large extension cord or run around to different outlets or you're going to find that you're unable to reach certain areas of your lawn. Okay, sure, there are some weed trimmers that run purely off of battery power and this don't need an extension cord, but don't get too excited just yet. Many of the battery powered units tend to fall short on the second issue (defined below) with non-gas-powered trimmers.

Second, there is an issue with non-gas powered trimmers being under powered. They just don't seem to generate the same revolutions per second as the higher powered (gas) units. Also, the electronic version tends to be less heavy duty and just not tough enough for some of the thicker weed and grass growth. This makes chopping down debris more work and just less effective.

This doesn't mean there isn't a place for electric weed trimmers. Many people are very happy with them. However, you need to take your particular situation into perspective and see if these trimmers fit your needs. If you do decide to purchase an electronic version, be sure to spend a little extra on the name brand versions as they usually offer more heavy-duty versions and guarantees.
